I want to thank all my readers for all their comments over the years. That Bloomin’ Garden turns nine years old on January 1, 2018. I can’t believe I’ve been writing for that long. It all started when I took an early retirement back in 2009. I wanted to keep busy so the blog was born. For those of you that are new here, the name of my website comes from the television show I hosted for many years. For about ten years I hosted a garden show for Delta TV. So there you go, a bit of history behind the name.
As I reflect on 2017, its been an amazing year. I had a busy year of speaking engagements and was honoured to speak at the Northwest Flower and Garden Show in February. As we move towards 2018 I am already booked for thirteen garden talks. I love what I do and am passionate about gardening.
In 2017 we hosted a dinner for the local garden tour participants and that was lots of fun. It certainly kept us on track in the garden as we wanted everything to look nice. Ours is a working garden and not perfect. As I get older I can tolerate a few weeds here and there. Some weeds along the water are left to grow wild and I like that. It encourages wildlife to visit the garden.
I am already planning my 2018 garden and we have lots of ideas. Sometimes more ideas than we can handle but we try to get them done. Right now we are talking about adding some vibrant colours to the garden. There is a gazebo that needs roofing and a new coat of paint. Our focus will be on finishing our kitchen renovation which is almost done. I love my new Ikea kitchen. It was the best decision for this home.
There is something about starting a new year. As gardeners we have time to reflect over the winter on what worked and what didn’t in the garden. As seed catalogues arrive we can cosy up and plan our next years garden. So from our house to yours, we wish you a Merry Christmas and all the best in 2018.
