Garden Bloggers Bloom Day- February 2016

I am joining bloggers from all over the world  today, the 15th of the month, to showcase what’s in bloom in our gardens. Its raining here big time but there is still quite a bit in bloom considering its only February.

The only drawback to my collection of Helleborus are that the blooms face downwards. I look forward to getting some of the new varieties that  have blooms facing to the side.

The crocuses are tightly closed up on this dark rainy day. Geranium ‘Mayapple’ is sending out its leaves already. Its time to move some of the new plants as it reseeded a bit. Garden Bloggers Bloom Day-February 2016

Under the rose arbor wall flowers are in bloom tucked next to the green Hellebore.

With all this rain I haven’t been out to clear away the heavy layer of leaves on the garden. Snowdrops made their way through with no problem.

Primula are starting to bloom. Last time I showed this plant it was still in bud. The flowers are taking  a beating from the rain. Everything is so soggy outside.

The white Hellebores have just opened. I love having white flowers in the shade garden. It always brightens up a shady spot.

This dark purple Hellebore has been in bloom for weeks and there are many more flowers to come.

This pink Hellebore was my Mom’s favourite. Each time I see it in the garden I will remember her. Mom no longer remembers gardening as her dementia is too advanced now. I bet she would like to see a bouquet of these pretty flowers. I may have to take her some for her room.

I was excited to see red berries on the Aucuba japonica. Such a fantastic plant to add colour and contrast to the shade garden.

Garden Bloggers Bloom Day-February 2016I found a Narcissus ‘Tete a Tete’ in bloom! It’s the very first one. I planted hundreds of these last fall so the rest won’t be far behind.

I am linking with bloggers over at May Dreams Gardens to share my blooms on this Garden Bloggers Bloom Day.

  1. I agree about putting white Hellebores under the trees in the shade. Mine are at my fence line but they can still be easily seen from inside the house. That is a good thing because I am not going out in this rain!
Another early blooming plant that I find very reliable for this time of year is Pulmonaria. I have a salmon coloured one in 3 different locations. All have been blooming for at least a couple of weeks.
