Last night I had the pleasure of going to a garden designer’s meeting at Petal and Butterflies Farm Nursery in Langley, British Columbia. The property is owned by Gwen Odermatt who is very knowledgeable and will always give you good advice on each of her plants.
If you haven’t visited this nursery you must try. The property is just over an acre and is filled with many unusual plants and there is a small garden center on site that is open two days per week.
The property is a combination of lawns and gardens and the terrain is sloped towards the view of a green belt to the north. There are fabulous gardens all around the property that include a large pond and waterfall, a vegetable garden, an alpine garden and many perennial gardens. Among the plants in this garden are many of the Pacific Northwest’s Great Plant Picks. These plants go through very thorough testing before being available for sale.
I couldn’t help but notice some of the plants that I would like to have in my garden, of which there were many. I would love this Trillium below.
I also loved this bed of Himalayan Blue Poppies. They were outstanding.I learned it is best to collect seed from only those branches with multiple flower heads.
